Every year, colour authority Pantone releases it’s Colour of the Year. This is a “colour snapshot” that represents consumer trends and expresses societal moods and atmospheres. For the the first time ever, they released two colours of the year in 2016 – Rose Quartz (now commonly known as Millennial Pink) and Serenity Blue.
Their reasoning behind the introduction of two colours was that it represents a growing acceptance of equality and fluidity. The combination of the warmer pink shade and tranquil blue create a balanced connection, and a sense of wellness and peace.
From a fashion perspective, it means that these two hues are perfect pairings. However, they also look just as good as standalone shades, especially in a head-to-toe look with slightly different tones. And while it’s already been a year since the colours were announced, there is always a lag time before we find garments hitting mainstream retailers.
So if you’re starting to need some relief from what is often a very neutral ‘winter uniform’, we suggest you uplift your spirits by introducing one – or both – of these colours into your wardrobe. Both would work beautifully with wardrobe staples such as denim, white and pale greys.
